Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger suggests that Julian Nagelsmann should reconsider his Euro squad options for Germany after the Champions League semi-finals.
The two finalists for the continental showpiece have been decided, with Real Madrid overcoming Bayern Munich to secure their spot, while their opponent, Dortmund, surprised many with their unexpected progression.
In both legs of Dortmund’s semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, Mats Hummels proved instrumental, scoring a goal and being solid defensively, helping his team eliminate PSG. UEFA recognized his performances by awarding him Man of the Match in both encounters. At 35, Hummels is now the oldest German goalscorer in the Champions League, and Berger argues, “It’s unlikely Nagelsmann would bench him. He has to reconsider his plans.”
Berger also believes that Schlotterbeck is another option to consider: “Schlotterbeck had his share of mistakes earlier, but he has visibly matured and become a key figure at Dortmund, taking on a leadership role in the dressing room. He deserves a call-up for the Euros too.”
