Today, A-League Chairman Greg Conroy announced via the official A-League social media platforms that the upcoming season will witness a reduction in club dividends and a cut in league operating expenses.
The full statement reads:
Following my update in January and recent media speculation, I wanted to address you, the A-League fans, about the latest decisions made by the A-League Board today.
The Board, consisting of myself and four club representatives, as well as representatives appointed by Football Australia, have collectively agreed to reduce the annual club dividends and grants for the next season.
This was not a decision taken lightly. We understand the short-term challenges this may pose to clubs, but we will work closely with all clubs to support them through this period.
We are committed to right-sizing the A-League, which is why we have been focused on reducing the overall operating costs of the league, developing our core football industry, and building the football pyramid to support the growth of our competition.
The Board, the League, and the clubs are all dedicated to delivering the best football possible. With a firm eye on the future, our key performance indicator is for the league to achieve sustainable profitability, with a target of consecutive years of revenue growth over the short term, laying the groundwork for future income increases.
We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to announcing details of the A-League 2024-25 season in the near future.
