According to reports from Dutch outlet HITC, Manchester United are very close and highly confident of securing the signature of Bologna forward Zirkzee. Despite a previous agreement with Milan, Zirkzee has been won over by Manchester United’s representatives, including manager Erik ten Hag.
Aside from United, AC Milan were also very close to Zirkzee, having previously attempted to sign him before July 1st, which is when his €34 million release clause expires. However, Zirkzee’s agent senses a stronger interest from Manchester United.
In fact, Milan had already reached an agreement with the player, but due to unresolved details, this created an opportunity for clubs like Manchester United to make their move.
It’s understood that the turning point came when Zirkzee met with Manchester United officials, with Ten Hag himself engaging in discussions with the player. The impression made by United was profound, leading the club to be resolute in completing the transfer. With a basic agreement in place with the player, Manchester United now only need to negotiate terms with Bologna.
Notably, while Milan still harbors hopes for Zirkzee, the intervention from Manchester United has forced them to look at alternative targets, such as Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, with whom Milan have been in contact recently.
