According to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge, Tottenham Hotspur are nearing the signing of Leeds United’s 18-year-old central midfielder Archie Gray, who has completed part of his medical yesterday.
Previously, Gray was on the brink of joining Brentford for a transfer fee of £40 million, with personal terms agreed and a medical completed last Saturday. However, the deal fell through as the two clubs couldn’t agree on the payment structure of the fee.
Now, Spurs are expected to secure Gray’s signature. They have been monitoring the young English midfielder for some time and are in advanced negotiations with Brentford, with the club optimistic about finalizing the transfer.
Last season, Gray made a total of 52 appearances for Leeds United across all competitions and is versatile enough to play in central midfield and at right-back. Leeds boss Jesse Marsch was reluctant to lose the youngster, but due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the club needs to balance their finances by selling players.
