June 29th – According to a recent report by David Ornstein of The Athletic, Manchester United are seriously contemplating signing centre-back Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich.
With the club eager to reinforce their defense ahead of the new season, the 24-year-old Dutch defender has emerged as a concrete target. However, negotiations between the clubs have yet to commence, leaving the potential transfer’s success uncertain.
De Ligt has been on Manchester United’s radar since his time at Ajax, and their interest persisted when he joined Juventus in 2019 and later Bayern in 2022.
United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, who previously coached De Ligt at Ajax, is also keen on reuniting with the Dutch international. He would be delighted to work with him again.
The Netherlands international has a contract with Bayern until 2027, but a move for De Ligt could prove more feasible than for other players like Brandt, with Everton not willing to part ways with the young centre-back for less than £70 million.
