Jakarta – The mystery surrounding Marco Bezzecchi’s future with Mooney VR46 has finally been answered. The Italian has decided to continue his collaboration with the Ducati satellite team until 2024.
The good news was shared by Mooney VR46 Ducati through its official Instagram, @vr46racingteam. On Wednesday, August 30th, 2023, the team owned by MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi agreed to extend Bezzecchi’s contract by one year.
“VR46 Racing Team and Marco Bezzecchi together for the next season!” reads the Mooney VR46 Ducati statement, accompanied by a short video clip.
Interestingly, in the shared video, Bezzecchi seemingly hints at writing a farewell letter to the team he has defended since 2020.
“Dear Mooney VR46 Racing Team, I’m writing you this letter because it’s an important day. After a challenging season in 2020, I joined the VR46 Racing Team in Moto2, a group that allowed me to progress to MotoGP alongside Vale’s top team,” Bezzecchi says in the video.
“That year, we achieved our first podium and Rookie of the Year, a dream come true for me! This season’s goal, our first victory in MotoGP, we achieved it together,” he continues.
Although he appears to be taking a sentimental approach, it turns out to be a prank pulled by the rider. Because ultimately, Bezzecchi abandons his breakup line.
The 24-year-old rider explains that he cannot leave a team that has been invaluable for his career in MotoGP. The 2022 MotoGP rookie also announces his decision to extend his contract with the Tavullia squad.
“After four years together, it’s time to…
“Forget it! I can’t leave, it’s time to sign for another year with the Mooney VR46 Racing Team,” Bezzechi continues.
This ongoing collaboration puts an end to rumors of Bezzecchi moving to Pramac Ducati to ride the latest Ducati motorcycle specification.
Currently, Bezzecchi is still in the race to contend for the 2023 MotoGP championship. He sits third in the standings, behind Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin.
