According to German newspaper Bild, if the German national team experiences injuries during their Euro preparation camp, midfielders Luka Reitz from Borussia M?nchengladbach and striker Jonathan Burkardt from Mainz would be the backup options for the squad. Mats Hummels, who was expected by many, is not on the standby list.
Both Reitz and Burkardt have already joined the German team’s training camp as sparring partners and will report to the team’s training base in Blauhenain. They will train alongside the national team players.
Reitz, 21, made 37 appearances (27 starts) for M?nchengladbach this season, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists. Burkardt, 19, played 29 games (20 starts) for Mainz, scoring 4 goals and assisting 3 times. Both are part of the German U21 national team.
Nagelsmann will submit Germany’s official 26-man squad list to UEFA by June 7th.
