Beijing time May 7th, former England international Michael Owen stated that if he were England manager Gareth Southgate, he would have started Palmer instead of Arsenal’s star Saka during the European Championship.
Owen commented, “If I were the head coach of the England team, I would opt for Palmer as a starter rather than Saka. We can’t overlook Palmer’s form and level; he is currently one of the best players in the Premier League. Despite Chelsea’s struggles, Palmer remains a strong contender for both the Premier League Player of the Season and the Golden Boot, which speaks volumes about his quality.”
Owen also mentioned, “In my setup for the England team, Palmer would play on the right wing, with Foden, Rice, and Bellingham supporting him in the lineup.”
So far this season, Palmer has featured in 42 games for Chelsea, scoring 24 goals and providing 13 assists; while Saka has played 46 matches for Arsenal, contributing 20 goals and 14 assists.
With a strong squad, England is now considered one of the favorites for the Euro title.
